We clink our glasses of wine together with a laugh and I take in the women around me.

After making good on my promise to stop by the fire station, Matt introduced me to his wife, Michaela. A redhead whose hair certainly matches her attitude. She’s a gorgeous, brown-eyed, five-foot-five ball of sass, sweetness and kindness. She looked so petite by her husband’s side who’s a full foot taller than her, but what she lacked in height she made up for in attitude.

I also found out that the two have a three-year-old daughter together called Raegan, and she is the cutest, most adorable kid I have seen. With her big baby blue eyes, blond hair that falls in curls down to her shoulders, she definitely takes after her father. However, from the few stories Michaela shared during my break and before they got called out to an incident, little Raegan may have taken physical traits from Matthew, but at the mere age of three she already displays Michaela’s attitude.

Following a quiet week at work, with me avoiding Maddox as much as I possibly could, it’s now Saturday evening and I’m in the company of an amazing bunch of women who manage to take my mind of he who shall not be named.

As they already had planned a trip out of town for the weekend to an estate her brother-in-law, Jayden, owns in McLean, VA, Michaela invited me to tag along and meet the rest of the group.

A long weekend away from my drama?

Yes, please.

Time away that will prevent me from turning up at Maddox’s place and ask him to touch me one more time?

Yes to that too.

My eyes take in Kinsley Kennedy, Michaela’s best friend, who sits just opposite me on the armchair. Long light blonde hair, green eyes and legs for days. She’s an English teacher who has a sailor’s mouth. Her British accent gets more pronounced with each glass of wine and her wild side takes over. Hence, why now she’s scrolling on her phone, searching for dirty questions to play never have I ever.

“The best way to get to know someone is to know their dirtiest side,” she said when she suggested the game, causing us to fall into a fit of laughter. And our well-intoxicated selves are pretty much incapable of saying that it’s a bad idea.

Moving my eyes slowly to her right, they land on the gorgeous brunette with striking blue eyes and an even more beautiful smile — Shaylee Hunter-Rayton. She is Michaela’s and Shannon’s sister-in-law, who married the eldest of the Rayton brothers, Nick Hunter-Rayton. She’s a sergeant with the local police department and she met her husband on the job, when she joined the precinct as detective. Nick soon became her partner with the Major Case Squad when he got promoted to detective and their attraction and feelings for each other were stronger than her desire to keep away from him. Now, they are married and got a baby boy, Avery, who is plainly adorable.
